Watch Miley Cyrus Get Teary Over Hurricane Harvey, Donate $500,000 on ‘Ellen’

Miley Cyrus put her money where her mouth is, big time, on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

The singer-slash-actress stopped by the talk show on Wednesday, and host Ellen DeGeneres revealed that Cyrus had told her backstage about her plan to donate $500,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief. It is clearly a cause that matters to Cyrus. The philanthropic entertainer, who has her own nonprofit, the Happy Hippie foundation, started to open up about her donation but quickly got too emotional.

“I can’t really talk about it,” she said as she got chocked up and teary-eyed. “I don’t know why it makes me so upset.”

She quickly managed to collect herself, though, and talked about what being able to do something means to her and how she hopes others will respond.

“I’m really happy to help any way that I can, and I hope people understand and can put themselves in those people’s shoes and just know what it feels like to have everything taken away from you,” Cyrus said.

DeGeneres commended her generous guest, calling her “amazing” and “so sweet,” and then later applauded her in a tweet, as well.

I love that my friend @MileyCyrus stepped up for the people of #Texas and is donating half a million dollars.

Cyrus joins a growing list of big-name celebrities who have made large donations to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, including Oscar winner Sandra Bullock, who donated $1 million through the Red Cross, DeGeneres herself, and still others.
