Kelly Dodd Explains Reason For RHOC Ratings Drop and Says She’s Still “Proud” of Season 15, Plus She Surprisingly Compliments Vicki Gunvalson

While offering her former co-star and the self-proclaimed “OG of the O.C.,” Vicki Gunvalson, an unexpected compliment, Kelly shared a series of posts on social media in which she addressed the low ratings of the current season and explained why people weren’t tuned into their latest episode.
On January 8, Kelly responded to the Bravo Housewives fanpage on Instagram, who shared a tweet from Bravo Ratings in which it was revealed that episode 13 (which aired on January 6) brought in just 822,000 viewers and noted that the episode marked “one of the lower rated episodes for the series!” In fact, it is the lowest rated episode of the current season.
“Do you think a cast shakeup is coming?” the fan page asked.
In response, Kelly pointed out that the raiding of the Capitol (Editor’s Note – This was a violent insurrection by a mob of Trump supporters who were incited by President Trump) in Washington, D.C. likely took their viewers’ attention away from RHOC.
“Gee what else was happening that might’ve diverted some viewers….? At least 15 million people were watching the riots in DC. I’d say we did very well considering,” Kelly stated.
Kelly also addressed the RHOC ratings drop on Twitter after being questioned about a past comment she had made regarding season 15 being an award-winning season for the cast.
“How about that ‘Emmy award-winning season?’” Christian Gray Snow asked on Twitter, along with a photo of Vicki appearing on an episode of Watch What Happens Live.
“Vicki looks pretty there. Definitely expected a massive drop due to the horrible events that happened that day. Still proud of the season!” Kelly replied.
In October of last year, Kelly told a fan on Instagram that season 15 would be “the best season yet” while clapping back at Vicki for suggesting the season had been shortened due to a lack of content.
“We filmed during COVID… real reality, not fake bullsh*t like she did for 10 years. Emmy-winning season watch!” Kelly said.
The Real Housewives of Orange County season 15 airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
